Weaver Beginning
History of Weaver
For 80 years, Weaver has been one of America's most prominent names in telescopic sights. With generations of outdoorsmen venturing afield with a Weaver scope mounted on their favorite hunting rifle, Weaver has established itself as a true American success story. Established in 1930 by William Weaver in a small facility in Newport, Kentucky, the Weaver brand filled the need for small, lightweight and affordable riflescopes. Bill Weaver quickly expanded and moved his blossoming optics company to a new plant in El Paso, Texas. In the following years, Weaver continued to craft quality riflescopes that eventually attained a standard that would meet the needs of a wide range of shooters.
Hunters, competition shooters and even the U.S. Military were all avid users of the Weaver brand. During WWII Bill Weaver's shop provided more than 36,000 scopes and sights for the U.S. Military. This association would lead to the creation of the Weaver K-Series for hunters and shooters and the Weaver V-Series variable power riflescopes which are still a preferred choice among varmint hunters and long-range shooters today.
During the 1960's the company ran into tough economic times that forced Bill Weaver to sell his company. Weaver changed ownership several times over the subsequent years. Most recently in 2008 when ATK dicovered that Meade was intent on selling off the Weaver brand. ATK saw an opportunity to further enhance their hunting and shooting product porfolio and purchased Weaver Optics. This purchase reunited the optics with the famous Weaver rings and bases division which ATK already owned. Weaver currently resides with ATK Commcercial Products where it has enjoyed a resurgence in engineering, marketing and promotional resources as well as an aggressive growth in product line expansion.
